How to host a craft party!

I host craft parties at my house every few months - they are great fun and an excellent way to meet new people and network! Usually based around a theme (tonight it's White Trash!!), with all kinds of projects welcome, and a main project. Tonight some of us are making blankets for Project Linus - a non-profit organization that hands out these handmade blankets to kids who have gone through some kind of trauma, whether in the hospital, car crash, etc.

Having a theme draws more people, and it's easier to build a menu (i.e. I made a "boob" cake). My last party was Rocky Horror, and some of us made bras for an Art Bra Show, benefitting a local cancer foundation. Other people decorated t-shirts or shared their own craft specialty with other people. We also watched the movie and danced to the time warp .

I also benefit because I can share my extra craft supplies with my friends! A friend of mine comes with a camera and documents the party, and then puts it on her Flickr account for all of us to admire (or cry, if we got your bad side).

Basically, plan ahead by at least two weeks - that's when I send out my invites by email.

Finger food and one or two alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks work for my crowds.

Silly decorations and a little instruction on what the party is about and their options for crafting. Also, it's nice to have a sign-in list so people can give you their email address for future parties, and a section for other theme ideas.

Finally, if you buy items from local stores, collect their cards and leave them out for the guests. I've made lots of connections by offering to take cards and pass them out!
